Write a Way

Pen in hand, I stand in a place of paved horizons Legacies written on every street Neon lights blinking to the beat Of a rebel’s last stand and a hero’s lost cause Of a nation suffering from hearing loss Where discoveries lie dormant in the eyes of power And the nonconforming fight for new life by the hour So here I stand in the middle of it all Watching those who ignore every tear that falls Every hand that’s extended Every breath that’s held Every view apprehended Every bomb and shell And so the pen in my hand serves as the sword And the nerve in my bones strike a chord in the chorus And all our voices ring And all our hands are mended We’ll write a way to freedom Just when they think our song has ended
