Writing Makes a Difference

I was young and in foster care I had just moved in with my older sister. I thought time would heal our wounds. Time knew no such remedy. Time did pass and I did snoop... Through my sister's belongings. She would write and I would read. Maya Angelo did soothe our broken need. She found peace in the shedding of words on page Reading her words I found a sister I could love. She caught me in the middle of her poem soaking in the beauty of her syllables. She left that day, I wrote that day. For the first time words were my release too. I knew writing would heal my soul. I hope writing continues to heal hers.

This poem explains why I began writing poetry. My sister use to write and when she left the home we where staying in. It made me take up writing as a way to connect with her. Now I write still in remembrance of her but also because I love it dearly.
