Writing Poetry

It’s not about getting recognition.

It’s not about being in a competition.

Poetry is work.

I write poetry when I hurt.

Though it is emotionally draining,

poetry has given my life meaning.

Anxiety took control of my life,

Until I learned that I could write.

It’s not about people knowing what poetry is

or whatever,

it’s about people

understanding each other.

Because poetry is about feeling the earth

move within you,

whether it’s writing one poem or reading two

Poetry is learning, poetry is figuring it out.

Poetry isn’t perfect,

poetry is what humans are all about.
