Sunlight streamed through the filthy windows,
silence suffocated the ears.
and dainty clouds of dust danced before the child

the calm before the storm....

her prayers embraced the stillness.
his voice thundered off walls
stunning shards of glass rained down.

the coming of the storm...

in the morning, flooded with emotion
bruised and without options
paper and pen released the pent up pain.

and she made it through the storm again.

she grew tall and strong
as the storm raged on,
a seed caught in a typhoon.

........................I...................................
......................now.................................
.................know that:..............................
............if not for words and poems,...........
......pent up pain would leave me broken.......
..but here I stand, like a tree on a mountain.....
......................finally .....................................
......................safe.........................................

With my pen
and paper protection
I am ready to weather anything at all.

It describes how I discovered poetry one day as an outlet for the pain of surviving domestic abuse. It kept me level headed which allowed me to get into a good school, and start life on my own.
