Written On My Heart
Their heart is like a open book,
When I first heard the phrase I was instantly confused by the instinct it was right.
But I had better things to think about,
Kid things,
Like flying kites and playing tag so I put it out of mind.
Years pass and the phrase popped up a few more times,
On tv, in movies, books, songs;
And I still was confused on why it was right.
It wasn't until high school that it finally all made sense.
Hours of instruction in english,
Taught us the heart really is in booked
If you look beyond the words on the page,
Analyzed what else was there,
The feelings and impliciete lessons,
The tricks and tools used to highlight some and obscure others,
To find our interpretation of the authors meaning,
To the authors heart.
My heart is an open book,
And I am going to take charge of what is written.
