In a Year

Upset, I lay in bed.

Full of heartbreak and regrets,

the tears drip down my face.

I muster my strength, and say

"No more."

I push myself to grow,

like a dandelion through the cracks of a sidewalk

like a child learning to run

like the sun peaking through clouds

or someone finding a voice in the silence,

calling for help,

unafraid of the future.

I am confident. I am strong.

I am no longer a little girl.
