A Year Ago

A year ago, my eyes were blind

Of pride that worked subconsciously;

Humility I seek to find

And deeper roots to charity.

A year ago, I had not met

The friends I feel that show me Love,

Nor even could my courage yet

Direct my eyes to hear above.

A year ago, I'd not have thought

The human wonder of your soul,

Nor could myself have ever sought

The sight to seek to make it whole.

A year ago, I'd not have made

The Eden language that I make--

That culture of the grassy glade--

The ones that row the shining lake.

A year ago, my world to me

Would be so shallow in its height;

The Spirit of reality

Did not to me give such to bite.

A year ago, my weaknesses

Would fester, grow invisibly;

I seek to now root out my sins

And so love uncontrollably!
