A Year Ago Today

A year ago you looked in the mirror

You felt faceless

Lacking something, something important

You felt depth

Lonely lunches of ham and cheese

You were observant

Talk of coastlines and mountaintops made you ill

You were lonely

Watching the weak be spat upon

You felt rage

Sitting in a dark room filled with no meaning

You felt the meaning

A year ago today

But today is not of that same year

Today you looked in the mirror

You saw green eyes and constellations of freckles

You dove into murky waters

And surfaced with a pearl of truth

A feast fit for a king sits before you

You said your piece

Talk of twilights and moonlight excited you

You screamed into the night, with joy

Watching the bullies have a sword taken to their throats

You almost call the order to proceed, but don’t

Sitting in sand with gulls eyeing you, but fly on, you have no scraps for them

You are all you dreamed you would be.
