The Year of My Discontent (and growth)

One thing I never realized

was how much regret feels like guilt.

I feel guilty all the time

even though my blood was spilt.

She gave me nothing but confusion

when she put me on the shelf.

I held onto my illusion

but I lost myself.

They say that failure

is the greatest teacher

and that growth

requires pain

but they never told me

to my surprise

how regret and guilt feel like they are the same.
