Yearning

Her smile is enough to

Make a bad day better

I long to be in

Her arms

Held close and safe

I fear I will go mad

Over the thought of her

Not being right next to me

But Distance is a

Cruel bedfellow

Keeping us from

Being with one another

Separated by miles

And unable to get to

Her waiting embrace

I dream of her voice

The way it hangs onto

Certain words and syllables

The changes in pitch when

Conversations change topics

I fantasize about her eyes

How they’ll look when they

Look back at me

The way they’ll light up

When I take her to my

Favorite hidden places

I long for her hands

To hold them

To feel them

Warm and solid

In my own

I want for her

To be so desperately close

That the whatever space exists

Between us

Could be counted by our breaths

But I am afraid

That Distance will be what

Kills whatever we have

That no matter what I do

She will consider me too far

To even entertain the same

Thoughts I have

All I can do is

Hope and wish and long

For her enough

With the smallest of

Prayers that she is

Doing the same
