Yearning at Dawn

Up in the morning way too soon

"5AM!" exclaims the angry clock face

I stretch and blink, bustling against the bed sheets and blankets that bind us together beautifully

Only to find us face to face

Yours depressed upon my wake

Another busy day apart

No birds are chirping; sun hasn't even clocked in

I pull the covers up so I can get another 30 minutes of serene bliss with you

Why? Because your warm embrace is irresistible after longevity of 12 years

Ever since Pre-K I've know the feel of that sleek skin; so firm and soothing

You were there through surgeries, broken ankles, second tumor removal, divorce, after tough losses and harder wins

Knowledgeable of my most fearsome dreams and most splendid nightmares

Aware of all my late night chats with you and friends

You know what brings the grins and the tears

Rainy day? You will be around when needed

So as I you leave with your depressed expression, I know we will  reunite

Your face w filled with joy and comfort, when I return to rest with you

My amazing pillow
