Yearning for Respect

You

Sitting there

Behind your desk

With your uppity smirk

We want nothing but respect

But we are only unworthy babes

Lives entrusted to you to be molded

You sit, experimenting with your clay, shaping it

Creating an altered figure different from its original form

You take your clay, hoping to make an exceptional figure

Disappointed if your project fails, due to its unshakeable nature

But you should praise your work because you have made beautiful art

Allowing us to express ourselves is the only way we will truly learn

You perceive us as brash adolescents not ready for life’s hardships

But you must recognize we are our own delegates now

We are not little kids unaware of the world

You must let go of your many concerns

We must let go of our hesitations

The departing words given to us

We must Heed and Respect

Said with slight reluctance

“Good Job, You”

Yes, Finally

Approval.

This poem is about a student's yearning respect for a teacher and a teacher's wihs to make the student into something they want to see. As the school years roll by, each person learns more abut the other.

This is a potrayal of a student yearning for a teacher's respect throughout his/her school years. The teacher sees the student as a child wishing to change him/her into an adult. Both learn more about each other as their years together continue.
