The Years

Do the words "I love you" change from year to year?

Does it change with the wind

or soak in the sun?

Does is grasp your heart and pull on the strings?

Or does it shatter it in two.

Is love selfish for the right reasons,

or stubborn, or angry, or full of mistakes?

Is is the crooked smile or the tear stained cheek,

or is the dirty dishes in the sink?

Love is all of these things because we are not perfect.

We will all get angry at one point, we will all get sad,

and we will make mistakes because we are not perfect.

But love is powerful and strange.

A healthy relashionship is not abusive, it is not torture, it is not hatred

"I love you" should be the spear that gets thrown through a heart,

it should be the the passion, the change in the breeze, the blossom of a flower

or the tender touch of a baby.

Because I love you,

I am caring, I am kind, I am imperfect but I am not blind,

I am forgiving, I am loyal, I am not abusive, I will not boil

I am passion and I am understanding.

Through the years,

situations will change

problems will arise,

but love will conquer if we put out minds and souls to the test.

The years are ours to have,

because I love you.
