The Years Without a Mother
Dear Mom,
The mother that I lost many years ago to a terrible disease.
Cancer.
On the first year.
Every night I went sleep,
Hoping never to weep,
It was a leap.
On the second year.
Double digits suited me well,
But it was only a spell,
To keep me from living in hell.
On the third year.
I was finally on top of the food chain,
But like a storm drain,
It was only filled with rain.
On the fourth year.
Unprepared for middle school,
I looked like a fool,
Thinking that I could be cool.
On the fifth year.
The last four years of being a kid,
Are the ones that you must cherish,
But some sometimes perish.
On the sixth year.
Halfway towards college,
But with little knowledge,
Of what I must acknowledge.
You are really gone.
Must I must go on.
On the seventh year.
The 16th birth year should be spent with no other,
But with a stepmother,
It is no bother.
February 03, 2018.
This date marks eight years,
And as my future nears,
I no longer fear my fears.
Sincerely, your daughter
