Yellow Bird

(poems go here)

A yellow bird sits

atop her perch

with golden wings

so frozen in place

This yellow bird sang

on sunny mornings

by their command

songs that lifted them

from their gray moods

Now this bird is caged

never will she fly again

They were so awful

to take the life from her wings

and lock her away

On bright days

they would laugh at her

as the bars would rust

Invisible tears

fell openly down her beak

in a room so dark

Now the bars have more rust

and when they finally break

she is free to sing
