The Yesterday You

You look at old pictures,

Which trigger past memories.

You recall distant friends

Turned unsuspectiny enemies.

You remember a time

When you weren't so pained,

When you could stand alone

With no battle scars gained.

You start mourning the loss

Of this yesterday you;

The one who felt whole,

The one not as blue.

This yesterday you, who

In that picture you saw

Smiled with pure joy

Without feeling one flaw.

You wish to go back

To this yesterday hue,

That wasn't as hurt

As this new today you.

But then you recall

How that yesterday you

May have been thinking

Of a yesterday, too.

So you choose to move past

This yesterday you,

Or else you'll stay stuck

In that yesterday blue.
