1.Type of poem: An Ode. An Ode is a poem addressed to something inanimate (non-living) as though it had a life.  My identity

Ode to a soccer ball

Oh soccer ball, how you sing joy when you make a goal,

I see you bounce with happiness,

Spring with delight.

You’re mischievous when you dodge a header,

You laugh and spin out of control when a kick misses hitting you,

Yet you are kind as you sit in the dark – or the rain – waiting to be played with again.

2. Type of poem: A Free Verse. A Free Verse has no rhyme, pattern or fixed number of lines. My family

My Father Pours

My father.

Strong and tall.

Pours in the heat.

He pours concrete.

He pours love, and wisdom.

He pours instruction.

He pours from his hands, but not from his eyes.

Concrete has no place in my father’s eyes.

Only pride.

Pride in his eyes, and concrete from his hands.

3. Type of poem: Rhyme poem. A Rhyme poem is a repetition of sound found at the end of the lines of poetry. The following poem has a AB CD rhyme. Friendship

My Friends

My friends all giggle like a goose,

They make me laugh and lend their glue,

At lunchtime we like to eat and drink juice,

They’re there for me, when I’m blue.

My friends are fast and quick,

Their knees are always scabby,

My friends enjoy a joke and trick,

Around them, I’m never crabby.

4. Type of poem: Haiku. A Haiku has three lines. Five syllables in the first, seven in the second line and five in the last. (5, 7, 5) It is a Japanese form of poetry.  Philanthropy

Better World

Stop all the fighting,

Be kind and considerate,

Think nice of others.

5. Type of poetry: Shape poetry. A Shape Poem is written to draw a picture with words. Below is the shape of a tree. The poem is in free verse.  Aspirations

                            Would

                        Like to grow

                   Up strong and tall

               Just like a tree with long

          Branches that can reach out and

                            Touch

                            People
