You

That feeling like fire ants trying to burrow into my skin,

like my bones would shatter and my body melt into the Earth.

That silky, smooth blaze that would eventually burn me alive.

I once thought that was love. How foolish I had been.

How foolish to think that love would find me

Wrapped up in a dirty sheet and struggling to breathe

Break me

Burn me

Beat me black and blue

You could have done anything

And still

All I wanted

Was you
