You

In the darkness of 4 a.m. The sadness of death rings through my ears. Unbearable pain drops on my face As my mother lies weeping in my arms. Why? Why now? It’s not time. We have so much left to do So much left to say You can’t go away. You were just here yesterday Laughing, teaching, encouraging. I am who I am because you were here. What will I be now because you are there? From joy and happiness To pain and uncertainty All in one day Devastation is just one hour away. I’m the man of the house now. I see you in my dreams. Yes I’ll take care of the girls for you As you vanish with packed suitcases in hand. No one will ever get over loosing you. It’s just day by day Picking up the pieces And pushing through. I will become the man you taught me to be. Get the education, “Leading the path to the future,” As you would say So you will be proud of me on graduation day.
