For You
For You
Whomever you may be
The you that's now or after
Or maybe even before,
Crawling out of Wonderland
To play and see how everything’s fared
Maybe you didn't imagine this
Or maybe you did but the plan has been skewed the tiniest bit
Or a lot
Regardless I hope you're happy with the way
The Universe decided to roll the dice
I never imagined it
I mean I did,
But not like this
Certainly not twenties dresses or
An obscene amount of butterflies rushing
up my throat to escape my mouth
I guess it kept me on my toes
Literally, for without two-inch black heels
I am too short to reach your lips
Six months
And a few days too late
The most I can say for myself
Is that I try my best
Most of the time, anyway
And I’ve built myself a home
A home within my bones
And the wooden floorboards creak
Cold and lonely and quiet
And if you don't mind the
Palpitations
Occasional lack of motivation
Looming threats of infatuation
Racing thoughts and consternation
It's not exactly a bad place to spend some time
Maybe I could share the space
If I was so inclined
What about you?
Do your thoughts leak through the gaps between your bones
Or do they sit heavy in your ribcage?
Feather stems poking through your temples
Or are the demons more of a whispering in your brain?
I think the same fabric
Likes to snake itself around our throats
And pull
Up around our eyes
And threading through our ears
It wraps our minds in warm panic
Maybe not panic
Maybe sometimes it's just a feeling
Not an outright intrusion
I don't really know
I can only speak for myself
But maybe the same goblins visit us in our dreams
And if that's true then surely the same Angels
Or fairies
Or whatever you'd like to call them
Maybe it's the same ones
That loosen our ribs from around our lungs
But then again maybe not
Maybe I'm just being poetic
Trying to find excuses to describe something
That fares better in the abstract
But Despite this uncertainty
I'd still like to hold your hand
