You and I

I left that rose at your doorstep,

Yet you didn't even call.

That really begs the question,

Did you ever love me at all?

I think about you all the time,

I wish that it could be you and I.

But I know that time has passed,

So why should I even ask?

You and I,

Our love always prevailed.

You always stood by my side,

Until the day I failed.

Is it too late to say I'm sorry?

As you leave me to love myself.

You were the only angel,

In a place that felt like hell.

So what do I do when you're gone?

I never left that rose on your doorstep,

Because the thorns just hurt too much.

I wish that I ever held you,

But I guess I was never good enough.

I wish I would have told you despite all of my pride,

Because in the end there never was a you and I.

So now I stand on my own,

Why can't my heart find its home?
