You Are Beautiful
To Whom It May Concern,
When you look in the mirror, what do you see?
Like the monkey from Lion King, I tell you
“Look beyond what you see.”
Your hair has an intricate mind beneath it
The color and size of your eyes don’t tell their whole story
The size of your lips don’t compare to the words held within them
Take care of your ears, whatever shape or size:
They have undoubtedly heard unforgettable things
Remember to remember the good above the bad.
Thank goodness for that beautiful neck:
No matter how long or short, it holds up that gorgeous head of yours.
Now you’re staring at the middle of the body…
Is your womanhood even visible or are you one who can’t seem to hide it?
Are you too skinny? Too fat? Too much muscle or too little of it?
Is your butt flat or bulging?
Is your manhood above average or do you have to exaggerate to make it so?
I’m here to tell you the bad views, the negative words:
They will always be the first heard
Stop focusing on that!
This is one of the most important parts of you
Look beyond all of this at the heart
Let it love this body reflected back at you,
And let it love all the other bodies surrounding you
Without love, what are we here for?
Don’t let your arms stop reaching for every dream you have been racing for
Don’t let your legs stop carrying you through every scene of your own movie
You might not think it’s a “Hollywood worthy life”
But I’d go to the midnight premier
Who we are is so much more than what stares back at us from the glass
What we see, hear, speak, think, and do makes up how we live
So see yourself as beauty
Hear yourself as lovely
Speak of yourself as worthy
Think of yourself confidently
And do what makes you happy
