You Are Flawless
Beauty is fleeting,
But the definition of a single word,
Misunderstood by a culture
That blatantly declares
On the cover of every magazine,
Tabloid or advertisement,
Pervading our very thoughts;
To be skinny,
To be beautiful,
To be desirable,
Is what we are told.
But to be truly beautiful,
To be flawless—
We must recognize the attractive,
Loving, and kind pieces of who we are;
Who I am.
Do not lose who you are,
Because the next popular icon
Tells you that in order to achieve beauty,
You must perform;
Be enslaved to someone else’s rules.
Is it worth it?
Because I see that heart in you;
That beauty,
That kindness,
That potential,
I believe wholeheartedly
That you are flawless.
And if I can see that in you,
I can believe that someone,
Indeed, someone,
Might see that in me, too!
