You Are The Hero

If the heroes of old learned how we kept this place
They would rise from the grave and they would spit in our faces
The land and the sea is soaked with blood and their tears
Maintaining our freedom for hundreds of years

Every person on earth can be made corrupt
But for the ones who are true there's no need to give up
If we all come together we will show them what is due
Not with weapons and words but with work we pursue

The ones who caused change had to forfeit their lives
So that we could make music for a planet that thrives
On passion and courage, hope, heart, and prospect
So give us your best to show them respect

We were the best there ever were
Once we learned how to work together

It means more now than it ever did
With no pretty words to frost the struggle
We will embrace the wounds that make us brave,
and remember the pain so we never lose hope again

If ignorance is the only thing that gets us through alive
Give us all the knowledge there is, and we will happily die to end the lies

We will not freeze in this shadow
We will burn until there is light
We will not sink in this quicksand
We will struggle until we earn the strength to swim

Nothing is easy that makes us great
The ones that prevail lift heavy weight
We waste time waiting for a new dawn
While the time that consumes us has a purpose which is never fulfilled

Some say they're bitter. We say they hate
Some say they're lost. We say they refuse to look straight

If we pound enough effort into all that we do
We will find what we love is not things we pursue
We will find what we need is just your hand for me
And my hand for you
