You Are Not Forgotten
It's the final lap of the race. You round the corner, breathing on pace, one step at a time. The end is insight. One step at a time you cross the finish line. That's not the end, your mind decides to keeps racing. Your breath picks up speed. Your body finds a way to shut down, as your mind keeps tracing every detail of your brain.
Fear of the future.
Fear of being hurt.
Fear of forgetting.
There is a fear that spreads and the frail body has no control over it. It touches each soul quicker than before. Making them fear love, hope, and the truth. See the world for what it is. See how it sucks away our youth. See how it steals the feeling of being a part of something more, rather than being another story untold.
I've seen their faces.
I've heard their voices.
They have a story to be told but is anyone willing to listen.
To the runt in the class, your parent's choices don't get to define who you want to be. You are free to break down statistics of AFS. It will be hard but you are a voice that needs to be heard. You are face that needs to be seen.
You are not forgotten
To the teacher whose voice is swallowed by a classroom of kids, pushed aside by higher authority; Stand strong my friend because you will make it to the end.
You are not forgotten
To the country who is broadcasted as ruthless and full of suffering. You have so much beauty that is unseen through a camera lens. You are real people, who love, fight, and care. You are Haiti.
You are not forgotten
To my friends in a little town in a big country. There is joy in my heart because of all of you. No matter the distance, no matter how far apart, I see you. Jamaica may have crime and danger but Jamaica has you to make it better. Jamaica has Jah to give thanks to.
You are NOT forgotten
Listen to my words, hear my voice. There is no way of knowing everyone's story. We just have to recognize that we are not kids anymore and that everyone has one to be told. Most scars are invisible roots craved in our hearts that don't see enough sunlight. Be the light for someone who is lost in the dark, longing to tell their story. Be kind. Show Love.
Then maybe, one step at a time, their mind will stop racing and be still.
