You are welcome
Dear Future Me,
You are welcome! I am accepting the thanks in advance for all the sacrifices I am making now. For all the Friday nights I had to tell my friends I had some sudden emergency to stay home, you are welcome. For all the lecturers annoyingly accepting my unexpected visits, you are welcome. For all the refusing bonding time with family because of uncompleted assignments, you are welcome. For being laughed at as the girl who studies Economics 10-11 am every Saturday because of a “stupid study schedule”, you are welcome my dear.
Admittedly, for a second I thought I lost you. There were so many nights before bed I had to persuade myself that you are okay, and it is all apart of the process. Remember this, “Trust the Process”? It became our little morning meditation; especially when we were beginning the biggest drastic move of our life. The migration had come through and we had to put life in Jamaica on hold and start over in Georgia. It was not easy, in fact it was far from easy. Applying over for schools, looking a new home while trying to accept everything that came with it and keeping my composure. Applying for scholarships became my new hobby because I owed you one, the future me. Financial Strain wasn’t an excuse even if it meant while the world was sleeping I was seeking online looking for tuition aid.
I can see you right now, driving your future dream car; a red 2014 Chevrolet Impala listening to your favourite song, Travis Greene You made a way. Turn up the music if you want, you deserve it baby girl. It all paid off. You are welcome
