You Bring Out the Wildfire in Me

The highly flammable,

the kind that breathes sin

with every sound that secretes from

her robust mouth.

Stupid enough to land head first

looking forward to

an extinguishing end &

omnipotent adrenaline.

You bring out the universe in me.

The liberalized beliefs innate to my

microscopic galaxy.

An inflamed mind &

dynamic distaste for horoscopic signs

as I became the brightest star

that ever beamed in your Milky Way.

You bring out the fogged-up in me.

The car seats sweating from every

first breath & smoky tongue.

Hazy dazes consumed by

infiltrated lungs.

Hasty looks into the

blurry & foreclosed windows of me.

You bring out the exhausted in me.

As we call our ma’s to make sure nobody’s home,

because we haven't fucked on facetime all week.

3am voicemails hibernate in

intoxicated insomnia.

Lovers making love through computer screens.

You were the bee's knees,

everything the woman in me needs.

You bring out the adventure in me.

As I ascend above every cloud

that shadows star-crossed destinies.

Your rattling, electric rain

numbing every eerily brittle part of me.

Unplanned hikes through illicit walks of life.

The little, white highs

escalating into sober, unforgiving

scars on my sand-filled skin.

You bring out the parts of me

I did not know would wash away

with very languishing touch

drowning me in infatuation.

You shower me in possessive grace.

You bring out the boundless butterfly in me

as you spread my wings

farther than any

CTA train,

demonized gang,

or premeditated “I’m okay”.

You bring out the cold, dark & greasy in me.

That which fuels the gas tank

made to sustain late night rides

through warring neighborhoods.

Last minute thoughts lie in coffins

where endless statistics of

deceased bodies rot.

You bring out the Pandora’s box in me.

With every secret that oozed

out of the cage

I built myself into

long before you came.

You bring out the religion in me

as I fasted for you.

Replacing soulful sundays

for soulless fucking.

Your lustful ambrosia filled me to my brim

as I confused you for God

& consecrated myself for your almighty divinity.

You bring out the generosity in me

as I donated

my hands,

my mouth,

my most private parts,

& placed them into your offertory basket.

Persistent prayers for my next godlike fix.

You bring out the heartache in me.

Apocalyptic premonitions

as they talk about your fortunate state.

I never thought your name would

soak and stain

white hospital sheets harboring eclipsed truths.

Mother nature let me go & took you,

as she spoiled the euphoric release

that dissolved the strongest parts of me.

You bring out the roots in me.

My broken Spanish riding your broken thighs.

Dark-skinned boy planting

dazzling seeds in my white-passing.

Mexican girl living

in the forgotten weeds of the American Dream.

You bring out the end of me

as I felt the bullet penetrate my chest,

as I felt it violate you.

Razor-sharp, glass treasure

became thousands of shards

unable to be glued back together.

You bring out the end of me as I was forced

into the paralyzed end of you.
