You Can't See It
Have you heard of it?
Do you really understand?
Who do you think has it?
Where do you look to find someone with it?
You’re looking in the wrong place for we are here
Hello; I’m right in front of you
I didn’t learnd to read until the fith grade.
For years I fought my mom and the schools and every one eals becues the markings on the page made no sence.
They did not make english
You probably know one
Pass one in the street
Your closest friend, classmate, coworker, or family member may be one
Where I faild I also gaind,
I used my imagination to tell me what the books I couldn't read were saying
Insted of writing the letters I couldn't understand
I painted and dew.
It does not take up fysical form
Nor can you tell just from a short conversation.
Our brains just work a different way.
I live in a world where numbers and equations are the black holes of quantum physics
Where words on paper are a different language
Where it takes a long time to understand what’s said
When paint, clay, pens, and pencils and my imagination are all I need
Can you undersand the way it works?
I can’t
I took the all the tests the schools wanted, they ran my life for 13 years straight.
From the CAHSSE to the ACT to the Star Testing and every thing in between
And for what? My scores were shit
Those tests were the bigest waste time
They tell you nothing about me
Ecept I can’t spell, divide, or multiply
Four hours into the ACT
I wasn't even half done
That was a long day
Test days are always long days
I am one of them
My mind works in a unique pattern
And I see a different view.
I’m here now because pushed my self to do the best I could
My 4.0 GPA didn’t come easily
I earned every, single A I got
through hard work and dedacation
Despite what some thought and others said
I feel I am standing on top of the world,
Going to the college I desired
With this disability of mine
You would never know by looking at me
But I can proudly say it
I am dyslexic
