You Don't Even Know Me
You don't even know me
You stand there filling my head with what you say is knowledge
Convincing me that it’s for the preparation of college
You say you know best
But you must confess
That you don't even know me
You assume who I am based on my age and my appearance
Your judgments burden me with your consistent perseverance
I do not deserve this way
Just because I choose to pray
You don't even know me
You silence my words and my beliefs in front of my peers
You seem to encourage the hate, the laughter, and the sneers
Why must you keep doing this?
Ignorance seems far from bliss
And besides, you don't even know me
I am sorry that you despise what I believe and for what it makes me
I apologize for being a Christian and that we do not agree
You teach us about an equal people
What about those who stand under their steeple
Please don't oppress me
Because you don't even know me
