"You don't run
"You don't run things around here."
Fired flared
White hot, a dragon
My belly, my eyes, my spirit.
Every fiber of my body longed
to revolt, to prove, to know
that maybe, just maybe,
I can BECOME
The potential burns in my heart,
finding no way out but through my eyes
that spark with determination.
Long years, late nights, barked orders, and reprimands,
with my mouth shut tight.
And still the fire burned.
Slowly, painstakingly,
I worked my way up the ladder
only to be sent back to start.
Frustration boiled up, but I pushed it down.
"Not yet," I whispered,
"Not yet."
Again through the arduous process
Slowly climbing
Up to the head of a newspaper
World-wide, controlling the public mind
'Til one day,
I looked back,
the long lost memory of those words
ringing in my ears,
"You don't run things around here."
With deep satisfaction I gaze across the water
my yacht seeming to float toward me,
Her name?
"I Do."
