You Have Stolen My Heart

Criminal! What a thief you are -
I looked away for only a second or two,
And yet, you stole my heart.

You lifted it from underneath my very skin,
Ignited from a spark a flame that
warms two hands intertwined.

The only reassurance I have to comfort me in my loss
is that I have your heart as well,
left for compensation at the expenditure you forced upon me.

Such a precious treasure to pay such a worn-out debt
as the one between you and I,
And with its action, I know in an instant that my heart is safe in your hands

And that I must return this pledge of protection.
And as is the case, only a dramatic fashion will do,
So I keep my heart in the place where mine once was.

It's become an intricate part of my very being
And sometimes, I swear it whispers soft "I love you"s with each beat
And I smile for what a thief you are.
