You, I, and We

You,

Someone who made me laugh like I was still a child

Yet respected me like the woman I am

When your world was falling apart

I gave you mine to live in

You,

Kept my demons at bay

When I wanted them to consume me

Listened to my silence

Like it was my soul singing to you

I,

Felt your pain when you couldn't bear it

And gave you something to hold onto

Made you fall in love with not me

But life itself

I,

Nurtured your heart that was just once a tiny seed

But now a flourishing flower

Let you go when the seasons changed

So that you could be everything you were meant to be

We,

Were each other's life preservers

Holding each other afloat

In an ocean wanting to see us drown

Trying to engulf us into its depths

We kept each other alive.
