You Lost with Me, so That I Could Win

Where were you?

When closing my eyes

Was the only reality

I wanted to see

A light

What do you do?

Decide whether or not to open them

To hope for light

But only expect darkness

After all, it's been the same every time and

To realize that all the petals are on the floor

Being swept away by a phantom broom

Where were you?

At my breaking point

When the leather rained down

and left rivers on me

We both had our backs turned

What do you do?

When hunger is your friend

And your ribs become an instrument

A hollow echo

That makes two of us

Of tattered bones and a shattered soul

You were there

When I was blinded

By shadows and red

Through a churning I got used to

When shivering became permanent

And silence a reflex

I never realized it until long after

After I felt disfigured and destroyed

After feelings were dulled

After an irreversible experience

But what you did for me then

Made me stronger

Made me embrace that life is brutal

Even to a child

For you were there beside me

Drowning with me in our screams

A tribute to a long lost friend

I left you by a miracle

But I have never forgotten

About you

Or what you helped me see
