You Only Write Once Scholarship Slam.

Why do you hit me? Am I not good enough?

I know im not perfect. Just a diamond in the rough.

My beauty is within because my outter appearance is scarred.

You made waking up each morning so hard.

I couldn't take it anymore, the depression was killing me.

Slit wrists and suicidal thoughts because my own parent was my enemy.

Couldnt even find a way to love me?

Trying to hold my head up, but i knew you were above me.

Timid and paranoid as i walk around the house.

Trying not to make mistakes, staying quiet as a mouse.

But then one day at school, this teacher said,

"Hi, how are you? why are your eyes red?"

I saw in her eyes she cared, with every ounce of her.

She took my hand and said, "We're going to the guidance counselor".

From that day forward, my life has been better.

I'm happy, as for that teacher, im glad i met her.

I learned a lesson that i can't keep to myself.

Never hesitate to reach out for help.
