You Rap?
Ok,
So I guess I’m gonna rap for you
Cause if I call myself a rapper then that’s something that I have to do
Tie some words together just like lacing up a shoe
And start laying it down harder than the pavement on an avenue
But this is more than passing through
I’m pulling in the parking lot
The light inside my head keeps getting flicked on like it’s sparking pot
I’m addicted to burning thoughts and I don’t plan on quitting
Plus I’m willing to admit that everything I’m spitting’s written
Committing wit and ambition so you listen, envision, and give into wisdom’s my mission
I find the rhythm of opinions oscillate like a piston
So I pinpoint my position with unbiased precision
I’ve seen divided ideas confined to personal prisons
Then collide, and annihilate like nuclear fission
But what if we flipped the conditions?
Like instead of using simple-minded lines to talk shit
Rappers devise relevant rhymes to resolve conflict
Move beyond the cultural bond of flaunting incompetence
And become more confident in our honest accomplishments
A novel concept, spawned from the depths of me
While pondering consequences if current commonsense was left to be
Cause attention’s span tends to bend infinitesimally
Especially if this lesson is treated as anything less than a necessity
So I invest in literary weaponry
Good luck telling my intelligence to rest in peace
Like a beast unleashed to feast when you keep that which it seeks
I leave every bit of ignorance deceased and buried six feet deep
Let’s lay the old ways down to sleep
Awaken and take hold of endless pleasures we can reap
I wouldn’t say that I pray but I’d climb to the highest peak
Cause the sight of life itself gives me a reason to speak
Wrapped in ecstatic admiration I reach for an explanation
And each day I’m graced with these elaborate creations
Internally observing accurately worded equations
Information in formation to inform a nation:
My generation’s raging for a reason
We’ve been pretty pissed off at lies we grew up believing
First they told us we were free
Then said we’d die from smoking weed
That if you sit in school all day and get bored you must have ADD
Now supposedly we’ll all succeed, the only key is a degree
So wastes these four years of your life just to wait and see
Well… That ain’t for me
But neither is dropping out
Cause I’ve been busy learning shit the curriculum didn’t talk about
Combing art with science
No longer blind to my soul’s reliance on finding the finest structure of syllables I can rhyme with
While all the time making clear that what you’re hearing is mirroring the cerebral hemisphere’s steering this verbal engineering
Appearing either amazed or in a maze
Spending days dazed over a phrase until the phase fades and I’m gazing at the fluctuating ways my word play lays on the page saying “Hey!”…
Acknowledging my brain waves
Now it could seem crazy but maybe these traits can change me
Cause as of lately interrelations are rearranging quite strangely
Straining along the frame maintaining a plain pane
Insanely insisting everyone’s image is the same
So refrain from entertaining these lame aimless acts
Stuck on a typical track, lacking legitimate facts
I’ll wage combat while grinning like the chestier cat
Making toes tap, you go “OH SNAP!”, add a little knee slap
As we stop, lean & rock to this hot hip hop talk
While I walk over a stomp, stomp, clap and the only popped cap is the brim of my snap back hat
So yeah, I rap
I guess you could say that
