You Said So

“Just close your eyes my child, it will be ok”,

You said so.

But closed eyes  translates to open minds, starting my thoughts on a race of anxiety, confusion, and what-ifs.

But yet I persevere

Eyes closed, I take a deep breathe and the thoughts that once raced seem to catch a Charlie Horse and slowly, slowly, yet slowly, stop.

I wonder if you ever closed your eyes

I saw you carry struggle and disappointments with the last straw of pain breaking your back yet you persevered.

Did you ever close your eyes?

You saw a light in me even though life seemed to keep your light dim.

Complains never left your mouth.

You wished, worked, wondered for a better life for your children.

You paved the way

You said I can walk it.

Now close your eyes. It’s time to rest. I will persevere for us both.

It will be ok.
