You Saved Me

When I was sitting on your classroom floor,

asking you why I was flooded with anxiety,

asking you why I felt so depressed,

asking you why my test results came back positive,

asking you why it was me, and not somebody else,

You comforted me.

You held me in your embrace,

like a mother with her child,

even though you didn’t need to.

Tears streaming down my face,

wiped away with your hand.

You cared for me.

It’s not your job, yet you love me anyways.

You look out for me when no one else does.

You write me letters to keep me from crying.

You give me hugs on my worst days,

and all I am is thankful.

You listened to me.

By sharing your story,

you gave me the strength to share mine.

You challenge me daily to see tomorrow

and watch the sun rise again.

You always care to hear me out.

You inspired me.

There are no words to describe how much you mean to me.

When I felt so alone and unloved,

when I couldn’t keep from crying,

when I had to leave class out of anxiety,

when it was all too much to bear,

You carried me.

You are my rock

in my darkest hours,

the one who keeps me afloat.

I would not be here without you,

Mrs. H.

You saved me.
