You Taught Me
Day 1
I learned you loved me
And I thought you were the one.
As the days passed,
You taught me that I only needed you.
For almost 2 years it was just you and I.
But then you disappeared.
As I stood alone
And watched the people who I once knew pass me by,
I learned that you taught me wrong.
You taught me to be okay alone.
You taught me that abandonment was love.
You taught me that "us"
Was really me.
You were wrong.
I see now that this is not love
And how for almost 2 years
I let myself fall into a deep lonely hole.
But I'm climbing for dear life.
I know this now
That love is not being alone
And wondering where you've been.
Love is not leaving every last friend
Only for your jealousy not to flare.
Love is not being held like a trophy
To be shoved in people's faces
When you yourself didn't appreciate your treasure.
I know now that I can stand alone and fight for myself.
That I can take care of myself
That I can rely on myself
And be my own source of happiness.
I will stand alone
And I am a warrior
And I won't be left behind.
