You Then Me

Insects buzzing in the night,

The stars outside, above my head

And in my face, there shines a light.

With one voice cracked, the other still,

My body fills with aching dread.

A call to leave when I want to stay

And there’s nothing left to do but pray.

Soul searching and left unfulfilled.

With the pain of past, you further withdrew.

And when the sky is dark and no longer blue,

I promise I’ll be here all night long.

With heart intact and oh so strong.

And I’ll do it all because I love you.
