You Used Me
You used me, I feel so shame, yet I
don't know why I am being blamed.
She told me I am growing up now,
it's time to bring in the dough. If not,
she will put me out on the street
and change the locks, I won't be
their child no mo'.
I was 13 at the time, was going to
school, and doing art. Though,
my parents said it won't mount to
nothing if I don't do my part.
She told I won't be going to school
anymore and dress nice that night.
I was upset and cried myself to sleep,
because after remembering the threat;
I did not want to put up a fight.
So I put on the dress she laid out on the
bed. It was pretty but I was so nervous,
sweat was rolling down on the side of my
head.
He knocked on my door and asked was I dressed?
She is right behind him and said it is close enough,
but still look a mess.
He let the man in and took money from the man's
hand, I was scared and did not understand. They
said do what you want with her, she young. That's
when things went wrong.
The man beat me, chased me, tackled me,
and placed his hand over my mouth so I
could not scream. I closed my eyes and
wondered was I in a bad dream.
When the man finished, I was in so much
pain. They laughed at me and said we are
going to make it rain.
One night turned into weeks, weeks turned
into months. My body was bruised so bad
and I looked like a drunk.
I never slept but I was beyond hurt, these
people made feel like dirt.
One night, I snuck out the window with a
picture and a phone. I knew, I was not
going back home.
I ran to the station and talked to a lady
and she stopped what she was doing,
and thought she heard me crazily.
I repeated the story and gave her the photo,
I told her, I don't want to do this any mo'.
The police surrounded the house, lights
everywhere, and began to shout. They
could not believe the girl escaped and
ratted them out.
They went to jail for their crimes and
wow, they are going to be there for a
long time.
They used me, I feel so shame, yet I
don't know why I am being blamed.
Yet, I asked for help and they thought
I was playing a game. I am glad that
I took a risk and hope came.
