You were asking for it

an opinion

“what do you think of my hair”

possible responses:

“great” or

“um... why is your hair like that exactly”

with opinion you are really nonchalantly asking for a compliment

or a chance to insult someone for something you asked right?

“oh my gosh, why didn’t you say my hair looked bad, gosh you didn’t have to insult me” or

“if you’re not going to say anything nice, don't speak at all”

opinions--asked for daily

correct responses are rewarded with a smile and nothing

wrong responses are rewarded with a scowl so fierce; deep enough to penetrate the guilt you stored away from last time you gave your opinion

opinions--

rule of thumb

if you asked someone for their opinion

be prepared for your feelings to be hurt

because after all, you were asking for it
