YOU (Year of Us: Part I)

I walk down the empty staircase

Pondering deeply, no creeping sounds.

With each step it leads me to

A dark place with weights that pull me down.

Nothing is going right that

I would rather walk down these steps forever

What a fate I choose but

Did I ever have a choice, did I ever?

That moment when you stepped into my life

With your blonde hair and tall complexion

I was a mess, lost without a light

Unsure of what is truly there, even my reflection.

When things are getting rough

The cold night air making it hard to breathe

You think to yourself

Why am I alive, when can I be free?

Those nights you lie in your bed

Trapped in those thoughts of

When will all this end

I end up only thinking of love.

That moment when you stepped into my life

With those hazel eyes and strong arms

They hold me tight, never to let go

And keep me safe and warm.

When the whole world is at the brink of war

Or, at least, my current state of mind,

There is a beacon of hope when you are around.

You are the one thing that won’t leave me behind

Even when my feet are lifted high above the ground.
You’ll hold me down and save me from any more...
