You'll Never Understand

It was never easy,

This life I have.

But through all the pain and suffering,

I continued to love and be loved so I could always say,

I love this life I live.

It made me stronger,

Every card I was dealt, but How much longer?

I dreamed and dreamed to be the person I wanted to be,

I would stay out late, just watching the stars, wondering what was written in the sky for me.

I dreamed to save lives and heal people,

That should be the goal of every doctor, but who was there to save mine?

I got accepted into the school of my dreams the week after my grandpa passed away.

But college is expensive, and my parents can’t afford it.

All my good grades and accolades to waste because of a price tag, no eighteen-year-old can comprehend.

My education is in the bounds and I cry out,

Please…don’t make me stay here, I know it’s out of state, but I must get out of here.

Too many memories, too many tears, too many unfulfilled dreams will ruin me if I do.

School is my only freedom, my only way out, my only chance at life.

Through every trial, I remained faithful and continue my pursuit at education.

No matter how impossible everything seems, I will go fourth with more force,

To reach everything I am owed to become the physician I dream to be.

I don’t need sympathy, I don’t need you to understand, I just need you to hear me.

Everyone has a sob story, but that doesn’t matter.

No one cares about the struggle, what matters is that you got out and made something of yourself.

That’s what I intend to do.
