Young Black Lives
Black lives truly do matter and our youth are the leaders for the future. It is extremely important that we help protect and educate our youth. In Today's society the main systematic issues of oppressed youth are lack of education, broken homes, and lack of self-worth.
Nelson Mandela once said education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Lack of education can be as deadly as smoking. Without education we are vulnerable to submission and manipulation. An educated man, who does not know his constitutional rights can be cheated out of his money and self-respect. Education can help youth to realize their true potential and eventually build their self-worth.
To know your self-worth is to know your strengths and values. Once they know their self-worth they can channel their energy and focus into pursuing their ambitions and eventually help the community. When you know your own self-worth you will respect others. This will enable them to no longer steal, hurt others, engage in drugs or other illegal activities that are detrimental to their health. But before we can blame society for damaging our youth we need to educate them on strong family values.
A strong family household serves as conducive environment for young people to realize their full potential. It proves the youth with a sense of security. Jim Butcher better put it like this “There’s nothing that makes you more insane than family. Or more happy. Or more exasperated. Or more… secure.” A united family can serve as a good role model; placing youth in the right direction to fulfilling their future positive aspirations.
So how can education be made easily accessible for youth who can not easily access it? We as a community, need to set up organizations that teach African-American youth more about their heritage. This will provide encouragement as well as a higher knowledge concerning their well-being.
If a youth already comes from a broken home - who/where can he turn to for a sense of security and regain their self-esteem? If a family is broken they are at a constant war with poverty. This makes it difficult to embark on a good education, and leaves youth liable to engaging in illegal activities. If we build more organizations and groups that are determined to support youth who are deprived of their education, we will be able to help them stay focused and not become delinquents. Our schools and churches can help promote our youths sense of security by engaging them in extracurricular activities that will drive them to positive reinforcement. Ultimately securing their state of security.
In conclusion, young people can maintain their sense of security if they are provided with a strong family which would in-turn give them a sense of self-worth; which they can use to channel their focus to pursue a good education. In the long run enabling them with the power and tools needed impact their community positively and insure their sense of security.
