Young Love

dear Young Love,

thank you for butterflies, cheek kisses, holding hands

for letting me fall, completely unplanned

seeing pink and red, feeling ache and bliss

learning that there's more to life than a kiss

discovering what it means to feel

to pick out the bad ones- to find something real

being overwhelmed completely by that first touch

using attention and lust as a makeshift crutch

opening my heart and letting it bleed,

doing everything i can to fulfill that need

but most of all thank you for teaching me

that instead of being content with the hollow

i can fall in love with myself first

and the rest will inevitably follow

we eventually learn that we can be alone

something we've secretly always known

but i will meet someone who loves me; who is kind and true

and the only person i'll have to thank is You.

I love writing essays and poetry. Just graduated high school and am currently taking a gap year working as a pastry chef. Rejoining college next year in the beautiful city of Chicago!
