Young No Longer

Before I knew it, it was over.

Done

Sun had set and the tears had run

Caps were thrown and the audience had sung

It was over and my race was won.

Family had left and house quiet

I tried to tip-toed as much as I could

I did not want to start a riot

I cried my heart out

Not knowing what happens next,

I felt as if I was playing chess

Mother said "Speak up, speak up child. For they know not what you know.

You are the only one, that knows where to go."

I agreed with mother, but I did not know before

That I had the keys to my own door.

I packed my bags

I was getting ready, for I knew it had begun

My life was just starting and I still knew none

But I knew the search was done,

The tears had run

The song was sung

My heart was not hung.

For I am me, the one

That had the keys to my door that had just swung

Open.
