Your Little Princess

You look at me, through me.

You see a girl

Covered in makeup,

Covering up with a gentle smile.

You surround yourself with beauty,

Beautiful girls, beautiful art, beautiful scenery,

Masking the pain of a broken home,

With the loveliness

of other lost souls.

Yet you can’t see me through the lenses

of a broken heart. You only see me through a haze of hate.

I wish you would grab me in a bear-hug like you used to.

When you would call me your little princess.

When you would kiss my forehead,

And tell me that everything would be alright.

But now, you drink yourself into a stupor.

And tomorrow, you won’t remember this, you won’t remember the beauty.

You will only see the pain. You’ll look around and see

only the woman who broke your heart.

A ghost who abandoned you.

And all that’s left is a daughter who loves you,

Even through the lenses of humiliation and heart-break.
