Your Neighborhood

I don't want you to walk home

I know you wouldn't let me

You tell me you'll be fine and laugh

tell me I shouldn't worry so much

I offer to give you a ride every day

Some days you accept, some days you don't

You don't like me to worry about you

because I guess you forget

When you can't sleep because of the gunshots

I'm there

So in the mornings when you promise nothing will happen how can I believe you

How can I not worry

when someday I'll see

your name

on the news

and you won't be at school

and your little brother won't talk to me anymore

and there's an empty hole in our group where you used to stand

How can you tell me not to worry

Please let me take you home
