Your Path is Yours

its amusing
these things we worry about,
upset, angry, confused brains
pounding fists against our hearts
bones aching as we step
anxious wrinkles form above your brow
fingers intertwine as we look down
we know what will come
these things we worry about will come back around
you can’t escape
you have to endure
these things

our lives will become separate paths
going our own ways, finding our own waves
the pattern of life will be rippled beneath our feet
but stand strong little one
keep your knees locked because the things we worry about
are inevitable

fate may bring us back together, engulfed with joy and memories of how it used to be,
 love pecks of the past
or maybe we will be just that.
 separate lives,
lives that once were in sync, tangled, nourished, growing people whos futures didn’t add up into one.
 equal no longer

this is fine
this will be okay
because these things we worry about
no
those thoughts won’t fill your mind
haunt you when you slumber
kiss you when you wake
pinch you as you walk
no
no
vanishing with every pin and paper you tell your story on
slip into your new life
don’t cover up your eyes
awake into new beginnings
read the pages of the book you will write
and step back on your feet
see the lines of decision and compromise
your lines
my lines
parallel not perpendicular
that is ok
that is fine
you must not worry

because your path is yours, and I have mine.
