Your Words Echo In My Empty Chest

waiting at the department store

for you to turn your head and catch my glance

so i can beg you for the forgiveness

that your red rimmed eyes clearly say

i don't deserve

i only meant to protect you

such a cop-out phrase

that lingers on the borders of the lie that its becoming

i am not that unselfish

i sold you out to save my soul

and have regretted it ever since

but we were just kids then

and i was overdosed with god and fear

the choices are ours now

as we grow older

and less afraid of who we are
